I updated my R5s to firmware 1.5.1 in M mode instead of P mode.

Experienced a "senior moment" and updated the firmware in both of my R5s while in Manual mode instead of P mode. I don't see any problems, but I thought I should ask you learned folks for your opininons. Thanks for any advice offered.

I can't see any reason why this would make a difference.  I have updated my cameras in whatever mode they happen to be in.   According to my understanding, the process to upgrade firmware engages in the BIOS stack way below where a user will choose an operational mode, and thus that mode is irrelevant.

Thank you very much for your reply. Much appreciated.

You can always backup your cam settings to your card.  I've done a lot of custom settings so I made a backup to my CF Express card.

my "senior moment" -> remembering that I formatted my card and lost my backup cam file.  Should copy that to my computer to have an off-camera copy as I format my card frequently.
