I have a Canon D5 III. Is it safe to leave it on for 1 hour to take star trails? convergingpixels

No problem there, but I suggest you try using stacking techniques instead. It's better in term of noise.

Thank you for your help.
I was going to take 12 images, each 4 minutes long @ f/4 w/100 iso using my timer. Then I will stack these RAW images
converted to PSD files using Photoshop's Statistics script.
But I also wanted to try leaving the camera on for ~ 1 hr. using f/4 w/iso 100. I will use my 24-70 mm lens @ 24mm.
I'll be doing this @Glacier Pt., yosemite, hopefully w/ Half Dome in the fore ground.
Thanks again.

If you get anything good then by all means post up some pics. I'd love to see your Yosemite pictures.
