I cannot set an F stop of 4.0 using my EOS 60D with my Canon EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 IS lens.

I cannot set an F stop of 4.0 using my EOS 60D with my Canon EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 IS lens.  I have tried changing the shutter speed and the ISO and I still cannot set an F stop of 4.0.  Any recommendations?  Thanks in advance.

You would need to contact Canon for repair options and prices.  All we know at this point is that it's not correctly reporting it's focal length to the camera -- we don't know why.  It should be serviceable.

You would need to tell them that the lens always reports 300mm as the focal length even when set to other focal lengths.

Depend on the focal lenght of your lens, if it's set at or near 300mm, you can only set the aperture to 5.6. It's the lens limit, not the camera. It's not a fixed aperture lens, so you cannot set F4 at all focal lenght.

Thank You,  However, I cannot set the F stop to 4.0 even when the focal length is set to 75.

What mode are you using?

I am using manual mode.

what is the widest Aperture you can set @ 75mm? F5.6? Also look at the marking on the lens to make sure it is @ 75mm.

Yes, F5.6. I am looking at the lens right now and the vertical mark is right below 75.

Are you, by chance, using a 1.4x teleconverter / extender -- or is the lens attached directly to the camera body with no other components involved?

A 1.4x converter will take 1 full stop away from you.  That's normal if you're using a 1.4x.

Lens is connected right to the body of my camera. I don't own a converter.

Can you try to remove the lens, clean the contact. Then re-attach it then try? Sometimes, dirty contact can cause similar problem. Other than that, i don't recall any option in the camera that limit the maximum aperture especially in Manual Mode. Also you can try to reset the camera back to factory default or test the lens on another camera.
