How do I remotely record a video on a T6i?

I just purchased a Canon rebel T6i specifically for the capability to begin recording a video with a remote control. I have a remote control, in fact I have two of them. One that is wireless and one that plugs in. I have used both and the one that is wireless doesn't work at all so I think it is defective. The one that I plugged in will take pictures with the timer while I'm in video mode but it will not start recording. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have also tried operating it with my smart phone with the Camera Connect app and it still won't record video.

I had the wrong type of remote.  It did not have two options, one to take a photo and one to record.  It only had the option to take a photo. I bought the canon remote so I should be good now.

Note that the IR sensor is in the front of the camera.
