HELP!! Rookie in need of advice (6D or 7D Mark II)

Hello All, 

I would like to get advice on what steps i should take next as i am starting a photography business.

I currently have a Canon 3Ti with a couple of lenses. 

I dont believe that to be sufficient to start a busines with a low end camera. 

I would like to hear about your expertise. 

I am targeting a Canon 6D series although i just saw today that a new 7D Mark II series is coming in November. 

I would like to also get your opinion on what type of flash, lenses and any other items you recommend. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of photography business are you planning? Portraits?

The 7d2 is mostly a daytime outdoor sports specialist. The sophisticated autofocus is for fast action and would be wasted on simple portraits. It is a crop sensor not too terribly different than your T3i apart from the autofocus so for posed stills the T3i might be just as good.

I am not a pro, I don't sell images, but generally speaking you don't invest the most money in a body. You spend it on lenses and for a business you need to think about investing in lighting and other equipment plus expenses and advertising etc.

What is your budget? Your lenses could use an upgrade even if you stay with a crop but it depends on how much you have available to spend. If you go to the full frame 6d, your 2 EF-s lenses won't even fit onto the camera.

Like Scotty said, without knowing what you shoot we can't give recommendations.

Cameras are debated on here, without resolve, until the cows come home.  But I'm really interested in how the debates will evolve now that the 7d2 is on it's way.  In my opinion there are no two cameras in the Canon dSLR lineup that are more different than the 6D and 7d2.  These two cameras have entirely different purposes, with relatively little overlap.  The choice should be obvious based on what you shoot:  If you want high ISO performance and the best IQ you can get, get the 6D.  If you need a sophisticated autofocus system (all the IQ in the world doesn't mean squat if the photo isn't in focus) then get the 7D2.  If you want both high ISO performance and a good AF system, get the 5d3.

OK, I'll decide for you.  Wait and buy the 7D Mk II.  There are just too many "betters" in this body according to the specs and the reputation of the original 7D.  One being more lens selection and lenses are where it's at.

I agree, the fact that it's compatible with more lenses is what sold me in the end. Lots to learn still but I'll get there. Thank you.

hbsn, has a point, albeit a small one, in the fact the camera does not make the professional.  However, a low end camera is not built to the standards that a pro model is.  I personally went through 5 XTi's.  They just are not designed for every day rugged use.

Since I replaced all my equipment with 1 series, I have not had a single malfunction.  And I have not looked back.

I have to disagree with you there. If you know your craft, you should know with camera to get without asking us. Sorry if it sounds a little harsh. But, don't buy new camera because you think it will make you look "professional". 🙂 ...

Alright Hsbn, we all have to start somewhere. Feedback from the more positive bloggers helped tremendously. I appreciate them. I have a lot of work as I get to learn my craft.
