HDR PQ greyed out on the EOS R50

I am trying to enable HDR Shooting (HDR PQ) on my Canon R50.  The item is currently greyed out. When I click on it I get a screen telling me "Restricted by the following settings or conditions: Focus Bracketing."  The problem is that Focus Bracketing on Shooting Menu 6 shows as "Disabled."  I have Image quality set to "JPEG/HEIC Fine" only, no RAW, the HDR Mode setting on Shooting Menu 2 is OFF and Highlight Tone Priority is set to D+.  Firmware version is 1.5.0

I have tried all sorts of different combinations but nothing I select / set allows me to enable HDR PQ on this R50.  Is there an issue with the camera?  Is there some setting I'm missing?  I do not know whether this feature ever worked as this is the first time I was reading about it and wanted to try it out.  Suggestions? Solution?

As painful as it sounds, you may have to reset the camera.

I'm really going out on a limb here. Is there any chance that Focus Bracketing has to be ENABLED for shooting in HDR PQ? The error code seems to indicate "Restricted by the following settings or conditions: Focus Bracketing" but doesn't say if a given setting needs to be enabled or disabled. It's a long shot that this will correct the issue, but it would be free and easy to try. Maybe just cycling the Focus Bracketing on and off might make a difference . . . 😕

Thanks for the idea.  Good thought but no, doesn't solve the issue. What it does do is grey out the HDR Mode setting on Shooting Menu 2.  From what I read online you can't set image quality to raw or raw+JPEG, Focus Bracketing has to be disabled, need to be in P, Tv, Av, M, or B modes, drive mode set to single shot and flash off.  I've met all these conditions so just can't figure out why I can't enable HDR PQ.

jimeinzer,

I could very well be wrong, but I think the HDR PQ mode is only for the display of images, not the shooting.

Here's and overview of the HDR PQ mode from Canon:

Thanks!  That did the trick.  Now I just need to see what all changed. Luckily I have not made too many changes so will sort thru what I had done. Maybe I'll find a setting that I changed that caused this. Meanwhile I can now enable HDR PQ

You are welcome!

Sometimes an error occurs that the system just doesn't recognize (not just cameras), so it's forced to draw from a small pool of responses. Sometimes they just grab the wrong answer [generic] or some cryptic error code.

Sorry you had to resort to a reset, but it's probably quicker than sorting through settings, especially when the only clue you had was wrong, LOL!
