Going on a trip to Europe this time.

Hello everyone,

On December 10th 2024, we'll be heading to London then to Luxembourg and on to Andalucia Spain.  While there we'll be visiting Malaga, Cordova, Sevilla, and Granada.  I'll be bringing my R6 Mark II with the RF15-35mm f2.8, the RF24-105mm f4 and still deciding between the RF70-200mm or the 150-600mm lenses.  If anyone has any suggestions, pls let me know.  I think most of my shooting will be limited to street photography, architectural and landscape photography or anything that appears interesting.  😃  We'll be back on December 23, 2024 and post some pics.  If anyone has suggestions please let me know.

I recommend adding an ultra wide angle lens.  Most of the most populated areas of Europe date back centuries.  Many streets and areas tend to be fairly tight.  This is also true indoors.

Thanks for your input.  I've been all over Europe and I know what you mean.  "Most of the most populated areas of Europe date back centuries.  Many streets and areas tend to be fairly tight.  This is also true indoors."   That's why I knew right of that I would be taking the RF15-35mm and RF24-105mm..  With your and Rick's input I will definitely not take the 150-600mm.   I'm still thinking about taking the RF70-200mm though as I'll be traveling through the country side.  What do you think?  Should I or not?  If I don't it makes for lighter travel.

Hey Joe,

I took my Trinity + 100-500 to northern Europe in Aug this year.  I used my 15-35 and 24-70 the most, except for the the shots of Hollenkollem.  I could have done it with the 70-200.  

Many of streets in Norway and Denmark were fairly narrow.  I felt adequately covered with 15mm.  

I'd leave the 150-600 home unless you absolutely see yourself needing it.

Thanks for your input, I was thinking along the same lines and definitely take the RF15-35 F2.8 and RF24-105 and most probably the RF 70-200mm.  I'll leave the 150-600mm...   hehehe 😀

My two favorite lenses! And yep, while the 150-600 is a great long lens, it is HEAVY, man! I've sold mine in favor of the 100-500 and 200-800, but I did get a lot of use out of it. I don't think there's any way I would have tried to bring it on plane with me, though I did bring it on numerous road trips.

Unless the trip is all about photography, take the least amount possible, it may just wear you down, and often, lens changing could be difficult.  Myself, I would take either the 15-35 or 24-105, whichever you use most, or possibly both, with a small enough bag to make it easy. 

I went to London a few years ago with a Pentax KP, a 15 and 20-40 zoom.  I used a small Thinktank Turnstyle sling bag, which fit inside a regular backpack for air travel.  I also had a small travel tripod, I got up early each day and walked the neighborhood taking twilight pictures, but did not carry the tripod any other time.  Over 95 percent of my photos were  taken with the 20-40.  I never felt burdened by my gear, nor missed longer lenses.  The sling bag was nice, I could just spin it around to the front when sitting in a train or restaurant.

Now that was a totally different kit and it was only London, not all of your destinations.  But my trip was a family trip, not photography based, yet I took gear I knew would perform well on the opportunities I would get and was also unlikely to weigh me down.

Also, at least in Spain, do not let your gear out of your grasp.  

Most of all, have a fun trip!  Hope you get some great images.

You can count on it.  Lots of churches and cathedrals in Andalucia, Spain.  I'm planning of taking interior and exterior shots of both and castles 🏰 also.   😀

Right there with you re churches! My wife, an Episcopalian, loves to check out Anglican cathedrals, and we were in England in 2022 and 2023, based in Birmingham. We were able to take the train to a lot of huge cathedrals, Birmingham, Coventry, Canterbury, Worcester, the list goes on. Absolutely amazing architecture, and so much fun to visit and photograph!
