Firmware update eosr5-v221-mac for my EOS R5 has question mark in middle of firmware icon

Hello. I am trying to update the firmware on my EOS R5, but when I download the firmware on my Mac Book Pro, MacOS Tahoe 26.2, there is a question mark inside the icon when I double click on on it. I can copy it to a card, and put it in the camera, but the camera won't recognize it. Clearly, the question mark is an issue, but I don't know what to do. I have downloaded it a few times, restarted computer, etc. Anyone else have this question mark inside the icon?

That's OK. It's just that macOS doesn't recognize the file type.

Just copy that .fir file to your card.

Try using the app Camera connect instead. Download via the app, transfer to the camera and update the camera. I don't remember if only one memory card is required.

Thank you, Peter, but I can't find anything on the app about downloading firmware.

To rule out an issue with the file itself, You can also download the zip for Windows and extract it similarly.  See if that .FIR file has the ?

Camera firmware is operating system agnostic so it doesn't matter what version you download.  Windows or MAC.

If you still see the ?, then the issue is likely something in your environment.

Use the Get Info to see exactly what the extension is. Macs sometimes automagically unzip files. Does right(control) clicking on the file give you an option to decompress?
