EOS rebel T6 water damage

jaydatop

my canon EOS rebel T6 got wet because I accidentally left my sunroof open during a storm. I have soaked in rice, but I thought it was too late. I also charged the battery. How do I go about fixing it?

Once a camera has water damage it’s done. You’re better off upgrading to an EOS R series camera instead. It would not be worth it to repair it will exceed the cost of replacement.

Sorry to hear about your accident.  I agree with Demetrius.  Water damage usually means a total loss for the camera.  Ditto for any lens that was attached.

The damage might be covered by an auto or home insurance policy.  But value of the camera is probably less than the deductible and not worth the risk of rising premiums.

I would recommend the R50 and a camera bag.

Rice will only remove a small amount of moisture. Camera is toast. As mentioned, check with your insurance agent and go mirrorless.

Keh Camera has an Excellent rated body for ~$200. This would be your least expensive option.
If your budget allows consider an R series upgrade.

It will probably make more sense to get a mirrorless body and adapter. I bought an R100 because it was so cheap for a back-up, emergency body and have come to really enjoy it. It's a tremendous camera. The R50 gives you a few more features. Canon has an R body for every pocketbook. If the insurance gives you a payout, go shopping for a new camera.
