I got a Canon EOS digital rebel XT from my aunt and am trying to learn how to use it. I can't seem to figure out how to turn my screen on. I can take a picture and it will pop up but then disappear. Can anyone help me?

thanks in advance

If you are talking about how long the image you've taken stays displayed, it's default is 2 seconds, but you can make it longer. IIRC, it's in the "Playback" menu (3rd from left) and called "Review Time".

XT's don't have live view. You have to use the viewfinder. The LCD is for playback only.

If you are talking LV like the newer cameras have, the XT is just too old to have this feature.

You should look through the manual for this camera to get used to what it doesn't do, and how to use what it does.  If you want to take still only, this camera is OK.  I still the XTi (EOS 400D) and it works fine, but it IS about 18 years old.  If you don't have one here is a LINK TO MANUAL

I hope this will be helpful.

The mark of good photographer is less what they hold in their hand, it's more what they hold in their head;

So you guys won't think I'm totally bonkers, the OP Subject was originally just "SCREEN" and in the GENERAL category. Nothing mentioned about Live View, LOL! I have this camera.

I had not such thought, actually!  This camera is a bit of a classic IMHO.
I still shoot with it from time to time, even though it has long been superseded.

Rebel XT was my first camera that I learned digital photography on.  Fond memories from ages ago.
