EOS Rebel T7 screen black

Hello, I am a HS yearbook advisor so I am not well versed with deep knowledge of our camera, still learning.

Just recently the screen has stopped working and does not turn on when the camera is powered on. The camera will take photos but we are also not able to use the half click focus on the camera as well.

My students are all amateur photographers, so please keep in mind that it is high school students using the camera.

Any advice on things we could try before finding somewhere to take the camera in?

Thank you.

kgooder,

If your camera has a Disp button, try hitting that and see if your screen comes on.

As far as your focus goes, make sure that the switch on the side of the lens is in the AF position.

Hi Steve,

Both of those things have been checked and did not solve the issue.

kgooder,

Ouch!

Does your viewfinder still work?

Also, does your camera have an AF-On button? If it does, can you focus with that?

Try a full reset, who knows what settings they've (tried to) use.

No, we do not have an AF button. Sorry I don't know how I accepted the solution but it didn't work.

How do I do a full reset if the screen will not turn on?

If neither playback, Q button or menu turns on the screen it may be time for a visit to Canon.

That is what I was afraid of.

Maybe, if this camera has a proximity sensor under the viewfinder, it could be blocked.
