Had my RP for about a year and have been using it in A mode. Just learning about RAW mode and DPP. If I stay in A mode do I get both a JPG and RAW image for each picture? JPGs are usually find for most pics but would like the option of editing the RAW image for those shots which I'd like to edit/blow up. Thanks

Well there is no point in repeating this over and over again. You are free to believe what you want. Being wrong is not illegal.
This becomes so difficult for a lot of folks to grasp because when they look at the image on their computer it looks like what they tried to do in-camera. However none of that is saved in the raw file itself. In post unless you have a special app you can not save it then either. The raw file remains as it was simple plain 'raw' data.

Agree ebiggs; That's kind of why I was interested in Raw+JPG mode, if the jpg is good enough as a snap shot that's fine and on par with an iphone pix, but now I also have the Raw image which gives me the option of editing the shot to improve it. Now that I have a larger SD card I like that option and I can use DPP4 to improve it.

I attached camera to light box and made 2 remote triggered photos. First with ALO enabled and second with ALO disabled in camera menus. I used one of the example programs that comes with libraw source code to make a viewable image of the raw data without any interpolation.
Notice that the histogram of the raw data is different when ALO setting is changed in the camera and nothing else is changed. The darker end of the histogram is changed the most.
Changing the ALO setting in the camera changes what raw file will be produced if any of the exposure settings are auto.
