EOS R8 suggestion, but perhaps others: lens retract on power off timing

One “feature” request - it would be incredibly helpful if the lens would retract immediately when switching the camera to off - rather than waiting for lens cleaning to finish.  This almost certainly could lead to unnecessary ware on the lens if replacing the cap (as the helpful reminder indicates to do).

I think it is what it is. I assume Canon engineers have a good reason for not performing both operations concurrently.

Personally, I have using cameras for years. I am used to retracting my lenses by hand.  Most have a lock switch to lock the position.

I’d wondered about potential rear element cleaning - but I know of no such shifting element - it seems very strange.

Come to think of it, perhaps there are some lenses that also have a cleaning cycle before they retract - or mayhap something being reserved for the future.

For my part, I adore internal zooms/focus to avoid this issue entirely though.

I am not aware of the cameras performing rear element lens cleaning. Is this a particular feature of the R8?
