Did you mean:

EOS R8's file naming.

Hello, I have been using my R8 for more than a year and I quite love it. But there is an issue that I can't find a solution, or to be precise, it is something that Canon should improve the camera.

It is the file naming system on the camera. Other camera brands, and even other Canon models such as (Canon R6) has the ability to change the prefix of the picture's name.

The R8 can only set the name to "IMG_xxxx". I can't set it to (for example) "LDB_xxxx".

Maybe it is a "thing" that Canon put into cheaper models (to make them cheaper) but that's just not right. Maybe can Canon put that feature in the next R8's software update (maybe to 1.5.1)? Me and (I believe) other R8 user would be very appreciate that.

Thanks for reading if this post reaches someone in charge of these things. Sorry for the grammar tho. Thanks a lot.

A workaround is to change the name during import. Exif date + file name for example.

You should be able to change it.  You might not be able to do it using an automatic shooting mode.  I would have thought that you could, but maybe not.

Try switching the camera to P mode and check the menus.

You are correct the filename in the EOS R8 is preset at the factory to the IMG_xxxx name and cannot be changed, this is the same as some other models like EOS R10 and EOS R50. It is true that the EOS R6 / R5 / R7 / R3 / R1 cameras do allow the photographer to create a custom text string for the first 4 characters of the filename. While it may be possible to add with a firmware update, it seems that this was a deliberate choice taken when the product was developed so it would be unlikely to be a priority with a new firmware.
