EOS R8 How to use depth of field preview button

WinthropWendy

The R8 users manual mentions using the button assigned to depth of field preview. But I can't find anything about what button that is or how to customize a button for dof preview. What am I missing here?

The camera doesn't have a dedicated depth of field preview button next to the lens mount, so you need to use the Customize buttons function in the custom functions menu, the third tab.

There are a few candidate buttons that can be assigned the depth of field preview function instead of their standard function.

  • Movie button
  • M-Fn button
  • AF-ON button
  • * / AE-lock button
  • AF selection button
  • Any of the cross keys; up, down, left or right
  • SET button
  • Lens function button found on some longer telephoto lenses

This is covered in the manual, and the specific section online is here

I don't have the EOS R8, but it's much the same for the EOS R6 Mark II even though it does have a physical button assigned for depth of field preview. Here's the screens from my camera where I change the movie button to be depth of field preview.

Greetings,

On the R8 DOF Preview can be mapped to the following buttons except when you are on Movie Mode.
