Hello. I photograph marine mammals (seals, porpoises, etc.) from land. I can get a photo or a few in focus, but between photos my R7 immediately goes blurry and starts searching. How do I get it to just stay focused on that general area where the mammal will likely surface again? This was no problem with my old DSLR. Thank you.

What lens are you using when this occurs? Check the Focus Limiter Switch, if the lens has one.
The MILC bodies tend to continuously autofocus, even when the metering is idle. There is a menu option, probably somewhere in the AF menus, that controls “Continuous AF” when the metering is idle. Another one should control “Continuous AF” when focus is lost. These settings are enabled by default.
