EOS R7 Autofocus Breathing with Sigma Lens

I have a R7 and normally use my sigma 35 mm 1.4 in servo mode and am very happy because the focus is always on point. Now I got for a trip a sigma 17-50 mm 2.8 and the focus is always breathing (or is it pumping? Sorry I am from Germany) and I got a lot of picture with no correct focus. when I use it in single shot focusing it’s no problem and I got sharp pictures. Can someone explain this for me? I thought every image should have a correct focus because it’s the cameras work and not the lens. (Except focus speed and so on) Thanks ! 🙂

The Sigma 17-50mm is a much older design compared to the 35mm Art lens.  The 17-50mm is not fully compatible with Dual Pixel AF image sensors.  It is not able to perform smooth tracking of moving subjects.

[EDIT] You might try turning off the OS in the lens.

I'm inclined to go with Waddiizzle's explanation.  You can try using One spot (single focus point) AF, but as mentioned the 17-50 is a much older lens.  Using a Canon brand adapter is also recommended.
