I experienced the overheating issue after my warranty had expired, of course. Canon said to send it in and they will look at it and I have not done that yet as I am not optimistic.
Read/watched suggestions for possible solutions regarding longer video recording, such as leave lcd screen open, turn off camera while not recording, use dummy battery/ac adapter, and the least desirable to me is to attach a mini fan.
So my questions are:
Has anyone experiencing this issue sent to Canon for repair and they resolved the problem ?
As for the dummy battery/ac adapter, I see B&H Photo has one, AC-E6N AC Adapter and DC Coupler DR-E6 for $155.00 USD which is a steep price. But I am concerned as there is a review saying it is not compatible. And Canon website does not list the “dummy battery” as an accessory. I know Amazon will have dozens of knockoffs which I would tend to not trust. So, is this a viable option with B&H? Has anyone else used this for an R6?
Any feedback and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated other than buy a new camera.
Thanks,
RK

Greetings RKM17,
I am sorry to hear that your EOS R6 camera is overheating. While the camera is powered on and in use, it will generate heat due to use of the sensor and processor. Unlike a Canon DSLR camera to where the sensor only goes on when the picture is taken, mirrorless cameras always need to have the sensor running. The camera's overheat protection may prevent the user from recording video if the camera senses the temperature may be too high to operate in this mode.
Please note that the camera body may absorb more heat and have trouble dissipating heat if used in hot environments where the camera is under direct sunlight. The camera may also have trouble dissipating heat if it's wrapped or covered with materials like a camera cover, and it may have trouble dissipating heat if the camera is near other objects that also give off heat.

Regarding non-Canon accessories, we only have information on functionality and compatibility on products manufactured by Canon. Canon does not test third party accessories, so we are unable to confirm whether third party devices are fully compatible.
You may send the EOS R6 camera to our facility for repair if the issue continues to occur.

Hello Natalya,
Thank you for responding to my post. Just to elaborate, the overheating issue occurs in an indoor temperature controlled setting (68°f) on a tripod with no wraps/covers and no other equipment nearby. I am recording longer content material and even with turning the camera on and off in between takes it overheats within 40 minutes or so.
I hesitate sending it in for repair because I have read that many others with the same issue receive a response from Canon repair that they have found no faulty issues claiming the camera functions properly within its limitations. This is extremely disappointing! But maybe I’ll do without the camera for a few weeks and send it in anyway.
Also, thank you for the attached link regarding Canon compatible accessories and repair request process and link.
