EOS R6 Mark II One Shot AF Focus Hunt

Has anyone else had this issue with the R6 MK II?

Recently purchased a RF 35mm 1.8 STM.

I am having a problem when used with my R6 MK II.

When using the Av mode - One Shot...regardless of one Spot AF, 1 Point AF or Expanded it does not lock onto the selection I choose on the joystick in the back for the focusing point.

I am using BAF.

Also using Subject Detect to Auto - Eye Detectin Auto

Does not matter the AF setting.

If I change the Subject Detect or the Eye Detection settings it will not change the situation.

I am also getting the same thing on my RF 100-500mm L

It also occurs in bring window lighting so not a low light focus hunt.

Canon wants me to send it in and of course it is just out of warranty since November.

Thanks for the video.  I cannot get mine to perform like yours.  Is "Touch & drag AF settings" on Menu 4 in RF "ON"?  It might be helpful to the group if you could just send us all of your AF settings to see if we can recreate your issue.

The simplest way to disable the touchscreen is to close it.

There are a couple of ways to disable the touchscreen. But each setting seems to only disable the touchscreen when the camera is in a specific mode.  For example, the Touch AF Disable setting seems to be intended to only disable the touchscreen when the metering and AF systems are activated.

There is a setting in the Orange menu that disables the touchscreen in any camera mode. That includes during image capture, image playback and editing, browsing the menu system, etc. It’s more effective than the LOCK setting.

I don't have your lens, but used both the RF 35mm f/2.8 and RF 50mm f/1.8 and could not duplicate your results. 

From your video it appears what what might be happening is that your camera is unable to get a focus on the dark and distant area that you have selected using Expanded Area Autofocus and thus it is seeking focal points to get focus. 

I would suggest trying changing the following settings to see if you still have the problem, perhaps one at a time then testing to see if there is a single "smoking gun" causing your problem - change AF area to "Spot-AF" (I know you said you'd already tried this, but mentioning it still as the mode you are in allows the camera to collect more AF points and thinking we should eliminate that), change Sensitivity - AF pt select to "0", change Orientation Linked AF point  to "Same for Both Horiz/Vert",  change Lens Drive When AF Impossible to "Off".

You may have tried all of this, but these settings, I hope, will cause the camera to only focus on the single point that you've selected and not others.  It may then fail to focus and not take a photo, but that's actually an expected outcome.  Maybe some others here will have more ideas to share if these don't work for you.

If they do then you can adjust accordingly.  I personally only use Limit AF Areas to only use 1-Point and Whole Area AF and have a the AF Selection back button to switch between them.

This is not from touch and drag

i can handhold not even near the screen when this occurs.

Touch and drag was just a curiosity.  I wasn't suggesting that was the culprit.

I wanted to reach out and thank you for all of your help the last few days.

Not sure what setting was causing the issue, but did some camera resets find a solution.

The basic reset did not work unfortunately, but did reset all other options in the "Other Settings" selection, EXCEPT "Root Certificate" and the "Custom shooting mode(C1-C-3).

This resolved the issue without losing my custom "C1-C3) settings which was awesome,
