EOS R6 MK II Flash Function settings not working/grayed out

kwrichard77
Contributor

Just bought this camera

Flash function settings are grayed out to TTL and first curtain sync.  I Cant change these at all, which prevents me from shooting HSS

Flash C.Fn settings don't work at all: this menu cannot be displayed. incompatible flash or flash power is turned off.

I use Westcott FJ flash system.

You're flash system is NOT Compatible with Canon's Speedlite Control Menu. It may be compatible with an older camera but not a new one. If the firmware can be updated by the manufacturer you can check with them.

Hello kwrichard77 welcome to the forums. What speedlite are you using with your camera. Newer speedlites starting with the 430EX II and 580EX II support the Speedlite Control Menu. Speedlites released prior to the 430EX II and 580EX II DO NOT SUPPORT the Speedlite Control Menu. Older speedlites such as the 380EX, 420EX and the original 580EX will read "This Menu Can NOT Be Displayed, Incompatible Flash, Speedlite is Turned OFF". This is normal for older speedlites they CANNOT read the settings from the Speedlite Control Menu. They predate the Speedlite Control Menu all settings MUST be changed from the speedlite flash controls itself. Only exposure compensation CAN be set from the camera body. These speedlites are still compatible with your camera.

He's using a Wescott FJ flash system.  Its 3rd party.  Knowing nothing about this brand, it might not be compatible with the new muli-function hot shoe.  I'd rate Demitrius' knowledge of flashes as expert.

kwrichard77,

Take a look here:

Multi-Function Shoe Adapter AD-E1 (canon.com)

I suggest you check with Wescott FJ to see if their flases are compatible and what your options are.

My older speedlites 430EX III-RT, 470EX-AI & 600EX II-RT are all compatible and fit the multi-function hot shoe of the R6 Mark II and work just fine. But the 600EX II-RT requires the AD-E1 adapter because the speedlite has weather sealing. The OP may need this adapter if the speedlite doesn't fit correctly.

Thank you sir

Are you suggesting this adapter will allow me to use those functions with Westcott?

Does the speedlite or transmitter fit correctly in the hot shoe. If NOT the AD-E1 adapter maybe required. Canon says only few of their speedlites, transmitters and the off shoe cord require because of weather sealing. It could be software incompatibility that happens from time to time with new cameras when using older gear.
