Hello all!
I purchased a canon EOS R 50 in May of this year. I use the camera for pro wrestling photographs. The camera fired off an error code, lens 01. I took a soft cloth and cleaned the lens, and I am no longer receiving this error. But, now the camera won’t take pictures. When I hold down the button, it tries to flash, but won’t take an actual photo.
Any thoughts?

Since it is happening with both EF and RF glass it may be best to attempt a factory reset. If you have custom settings set up it will wipe them and you will need to set them back up.
I would also go into the others settings and reset the communication settings.
I always reboot the camera.

This is a 24–70 MM 1:2.8 L USM.

Is that lens the only 1 that gives you the error message or are both are? Can you test the lens on a DSLR camera by any chance? I don’t believe Canon repairs that lens anymore. How long ago did you get that lens? Where did you get that lens from? Or is it an older that you purchased years ago and not recently.

StephH913,
You wrote, "When I hold down the button, it tries to flash, but won’t take an actual photo.:
What do you mean, "It tries to flash"? Does this mean you are using your flash to take a picture?
What happens if you go outside on a bright sunny day and don't use your flash? If you are able to take a picture, it might mean that there is some issue in your flash settings.

Yes, it is the only lens giving me the error message. I purchased it in June 2025 from KEH.com. It’s past the return date.
I called a few camera repair shops near me and many sad they don’t work on mirrorless cameras. I am not 100% sure it’s the camera, I do think it’s the lens.

Thanks Steve, I’ll try to take a photo outdoors and see what happens with the kit lens.

The flex cable has likely failed in the lens and is no longer supported by Canon for repairs. That particular lens is known for flex cable failures. Since your RF lens works that’s the mostly cause of the error.
