EOS R5 Mark ll - Pictures will not appear on computer and importing

After importing pictures from the camera, the only image that shows up are the videos. The pictures do not show up, I am using a new card Lexar Professional 2000x 256GB in card slot 1 and a Lexar professional 256 GB in card slot 2. The pictures show up in LRC, but says the files are corrupt when I try to import. This is the first time I have tried to import pics off of this camera. Also, it typically selects card slot 2 first, and gives ne a message that it does not recognize card slot 1 unless i remove the batteries and selct card slot 1 on my settings. Any ideas on that is happening would be apprecited. My MacBook is 3 years old and I havent had any problems with it.

Neither Mark II - R5 or R6 are supported in MacOs Sequoia yet, either.

Have you updated LRC? Have you tried opening the files in Canons latest release of DPP 4? If you would rather not install DPP 4, please post one of your purported "corrupted" CR3's to a file sharing site, like Google, MS, Dropbox, etc., and make sure it can be shared. There are many of us who use both Adobe products and DPP, so if nothing else, we can confirm if your files are indeed corrupt.

The R5 II is fresh out of the gate, and I assume that Canon has tweaked the CR3, in fact, they just released a new version of DPP 4.

HI JCottle63,

In the R5 Mark II the card in the rear slot is number {1} (CF-express card) and the one in the front of it is number {2} (SD card).  Question:  Did you format both cards in the R5 Mark II?  Was there a card related error message displayed on the screen?  On your R5 M2, "Icons representing loaded cards are shown on the shooting screen (accessed by pressing the <INFO> button and on the Quick Control screen).  The camera will record to cards shown with a card selection icon [<] [>].   Also check the lock on the cards and make sure that they are in the unlocked position.  You may also have a faulty card and if you have another camera, you can try formatting the cards in that camera first then taking some shots to see if the cards work ok and are or are not faulty.  How did you set your cards Preferences in the Record Function and Card/Folder Selection?  Answers to the aforementioned will give more information to determine the cause of the problem.  Maybe faulty cards, cards lock is on, cards not properly formatted while inside the R5 M2, Camera is not properly set up, etc.

Thank you both for responding! Here are some answers to your questions:

Yes, I have downloaded the latest version of Canon DPP

Yes - I did format both cards in the EOS R5 Mark ll

Sometines I get a message on my screen that says it does not recognize Card Slot 1. This will go away if I remove the batteries and restard the camera.

Here are the settings I am using:

 Camera/Movie Seperate - disable

Camera record options - rec seperately

Movie Rec Options - standard

Camera Record/Play 1 (I select 1, but often it switches to 2 on its own)

Movie Record/Play 2

Note: I had recorded 6 vidoes and they all trnsferred fine to my computer. It's just the pictures where I am having the problem. They show up when the camera is selected in photos, but when I import them, only there is only an empty square with (raw) in the box as I am shooting in that format.IMG_4379 Small.jpeg

Also, sometins I get a message that "Card 1 is full", even though I don't have any pictures on card 1. It tends to go away if I restart the camera.

What do you mean when you asked if the card was "unlocked"?

On the left side of your Lexar SD card there is a little gray switch that should be on the down position when you're putting in the SD card into the R5 Mark II (with the camera lens pointing away from you, put your SD card into the slot with the SD card label facing you, and you'll see the little gray switch on the right of the card, it should be in the bottom of the little slot towards the connectors).  I also use Lexar SD cards on my R6 Mark II along with a Lexar CF-express type B Professional cards on my R5 Mark II and have yet to have any problems with them.  I hope this fixes your picture (photo) recording problem with your R5 Mark II.  The message that you get, "It does not recognize card 1" that means that the card is locked and therefore it doesn't recognize it.  If it was locked then format the SD card again when it's unlocked so it will actually format the card.  Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Joe. I checked the switch setting on CF Express Card and the switch was in the unlock position. I reformatted it anyways, took a couple of pictures with only that card in the camera, and the same thing happened. 

 

I do not see a switch for the SD Card. The interesting thing is that it is happening on both cards. When I take pictures on either card, then import them, I get the blank space. The pictures show up fine in the camera, its on the computer where the trouble happens. 

What computer OS are you using, and what app are you using in that screenshot? It was a little small for me to tell.

Currently Windows 11 does not support the EOS R5 Mark II RAW files natively. This means that it cannot show a preview of the images, only that the files are there and they are in RAW. If you install Canon Digital Photo Professional and browse to the same folder it will be able to display thumbnails of your images.

I'm using a 2020 MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.4.1 operating system. The preview that I shot was using the "photos" app. I was able to import the pics from my camera into Lrc, so it must be a setting on the computer on the photos app which is preventing me from seeing a preview of the picture?
