EOS R5 Mark II processing light stays on with IRIX 15mm f/2.4 lens

I have recently transitioned to using a Canon R5 Mark II (from my 5D Mark III), and I am encountering an issue when using my IRIX 15mm f/2.4 lens.

When I release the shutter, the back camera screen (where I typically see a preview of the image captured) is black and the red “processing” light on the camera remains on. When I power off the camera, the red processing light remains on. It seems the only way to fully turn the camera off is to remove the camera battery.

I’m wondering if this is a known issue with this particular lens + body combination, and is there something I can try doing to resolve it?

A few more data points to consider:
- The lens still works great on the 5D Mark III
- The lens is able to capture video on the R5 Mark II
-  I tried enabling the “Release shutter w/o lens” setting, but it did not resolve the issue

Any help would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the Community.

Your post is not the first to report issues with Irix primes. They are not compatible with the RF mount, even if you are using the Canon mount adapter. I suggest that you check with Irix for any lens firmware updates.

I love the Irix for Astro photography. It has worked great on both of my R5 camera bodies with the Canon adapter. I recently got an R5 ii and it seems to jam the camera. The camera will not work until I remove the battery.  I tried it with my Rokinon 24 mm f/1.4 and had the same problem. Works with the R5, not the R5 mark ii. Any suggestions?

Turn off all lens corrections.

I confirmed with Irix that the lens requires a firmware update to work properly with the R5m2.

How do you do a lens firmware update on an Irix?

You probably have to send it in.
