EOS R5 Mark II -not entering standby mode using LP-E6P battery

IanR

I have been using the R5 mark ii (firmware v1.0.2) for about a month.

For about two weeks after purchase I used the camera extensively, especially in the first week, and with the supplied battery (LP-E6P) I was able to get a full day's shooting.  Sometimes this was as many as 1000 shots (electronic shutter) on a single charge.

But last weekend I discovered the that the battery had drained over just two hours with almost no action (maybe 50 shots). I was not conscious of having changed any settings.

I have the Power Saving menu (under yellow menu) set to [Screen Dimmer 15sec] and [Viewfinder off 1min].  But when using the LP-E6P the EVF/Screen does not obey the selections. The screen does not dim, and the EVF does not turn off.

The really bizarre thing is that when I use a LP-E6NH battery (from my older R6 that the R5ii is replacing) the power saving works exactly as expected -- the screen dims after 15 seconds and the camera goes into standby with EVF off after 1min. The *only* difference is which battery I am using. I therefore get better battery life from the older battery which doesn't support the full functionality of the camera.

Has anyone else seen this behavior and/or know how to fix?

Thx, IanR

I have three LP-E6P batteries for my R5 Mark II and have had no problems with them. What do you see if you go to the tools 5 menu and choose Battery Info? Is there any place you could borrow an LP-E6P to try? If the Battery Info. screen does not show full recharge capacity or shows an error you can call Canon support and see if the warranty will cover replacement.

Thx for your reply. I checked the battery info, as suggested but it showed nothing abnormal.

However I have now managed to fix the issue. It’s not a very satisfactory solution, because it does not explain why the issue occurred, but I can fix via a factory reset. Furthermore, when I reloaded my saved settings after the factory reset, the camera continued to behave as expected, entering standby after 1 minute, and did not revert to the the always-on mode.

cheers, Ian
