EOS R5 Mark II locks up when at the bow of the ship

I'm on a cruise around Norway, and so far I've experienced my R5 Mk2 locking up twice now.  The viewfinder turns black, and the camera becomes unresponsive and can't be turned off.  Pulling the battery has been the only way I've found to reset it.

The firmware version is 1.2.0, and I'm using canon batteries.  I've tried two different batteries and two different storage cards and the camera has still locked up.

The one thing I've noticed, though, is that this only occurs when I'm on the outside front of the ship.  It hasn't yet had a problem on other parts of the ship or on land.  So that makes me wonder if this might be related to the radar or direct cold wind.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Mike

It is a bit like standing in a microwave oven on low power.  You only get peak exposure when the antenna is momentarily pointing right at you, but energy output of radar is quite high.  Some of us are old enough to remember the first microwaves aptly named the Amana "Radarrange".   The S-band radar (likely they are using both S-band and X-band on the ship, but X-band for certain) was a direct predecessor to the microwave oven.  They use the same magnetron technology.  If you wouldn't put yourself or you camera in front of an open and operating microwave oven it would be best to err on the side of caution in my opinion and not stand directly in front of radar antennae.  The fluids in human eyeballs are particularly susceptible -  cataracts, lens opacities, and retinal damage.

>> Owns/Owned both Canon EOS mirrorless full-frame and APS-C cameras and associated RF, RF-S and EF adapted lenses - inventory tends to change on short notice. Same for flashes, tripods, bags, straps, etc.
Plus>> Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 Printer

Thanks everyone for the input on this!  It sounds like the classic situation of:  "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."  "Well, don't do that!"

I've just been avoiding that specific part of the ship and it's working fine.

Thanks again,

Mike

Somewhat unrelated but that Viking Cruise was nice. We did ours last fall.
