Hi all
In practice, I often shoot with clients who follow what I'm doing live on an external screen. This has proven to be incredibly useful - both in the studio and on location. With my old R5, this wasn't a problem either: I could easily transfer the live image of my shots directly to the external monitor via the HDMI connection, in photo mode.
Now I can no longer use my new Canon R5 MK2 via the HDMI connection in photo mode, the screen and EVF go black, the signal is transmitted perfectly to the external screen, but simply blocks the EVF! Why exactly? And why does this only work in video mode? Why hasn't Canon introduced this for stills as well? Technically it wouldn't be a problem...
Maybe you have a solution to this problem, or maybe Canon is addressing this issue
Best
Yves

I spent the last two days trying to fix the following issue, similar to the one described by ybn. I have my camera set to HDMI resolution to AUTO (yellow menu):
R5 II + PT6 PortKeys External Monitor - connected via HDMI -
Photo Mode: In photo mode, the external monitor gets a perfect signal and image, but the EVF and Camera's back screen are black. The External monitor does not receive screen information (aperture/ISO/shutter/card, etc.), and pressing the camera menu button does not bring the menu to the camera's EVF/Back screen or even the external monitor.
Video Mode: In video mode, the external monitor, camera back screen, and EVF all receive signal and image, but the external monitor does not display camera information. When the camera menu button is pressed, the camera's EVF and back screen go black.
I checked Jan's Wegener Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhO6vl4ng4A&t=391s - at 6:22 his R5 in photo mode connected to the PT6 external monitor is sending menu info to the external screen - precisely what the R5 II is not doing ( menu info).

R5 II—After posting on this thread, I received a new HDMI cable ($22.00), which solved most of my issues. I got Alvin's Cables 8K 2.1 HDMI High-Speed Braided Coiled Cable Right Angle to Right Angle.
YBN's issue is still not solved, given that his issue of losing EVF and the back screen will not be solved with a new cable. This is an issue that the cable will not solve; Canon must issue a firmware update to unblock the signal when the HDMI port is in use.
UPDATE
PHOTO MODE—The camera's menu functions are now available on the external monitor, and the image quality is excellent. I can even review and delete photos. However, the EVF and the camera's back screen are black. I don't think there is a way around the black screen and EVF when HDMI-out is used in Photo Mode.
VIDEO MODE: The camera's EVF, back screen, and external monitor continue to receive signal and image, and the camera Menu is now available on the back screen (only).
I'm happy with this result since the external monitor used in photo mode will be limited to situations where I need to lie on the ground on my belly. My usage of the external monitor in video mode is well covered, with the camera menu and info being displayed on the back screen only.
Cheers
