EOS R5 Mark II Freezing/Hanging

Redsled

Anyone else having a freezing/hanging issue with their R5 Mk ii?  Generally, it seems like it shows the last image taken in the view finder. Powering off does not clear it, requires the removal of the battery. Currently in Europe, headed back to the States tomorrow. Has consistently happened several times a day - up to almost two dozen today. Doesn’t seem to matter which of my batteries (using both LP-E6P and LP-E6NH batteries) or which memory card (a mixture, but generally Sony Tough cards) I’m using. Not panicking (yet), it is firmware 1.0.0; however, today was annoying - missed several shots due to the freezing. Mostly just curious if anyone else is having the same issues? Thanks - Kevin

Hi, I have been following this thread. I have had the same freezing issues with an R5 for a few months now. I have missed countless shots where one minute it's working fine the next the AF point disappears and there is no response from any of the buttons. It's come to a point now where if I know I might need the camera to work I ritually take the battery out a couple of times and switch it on and off. I was thinking of upgrading to an R52...reading this I might jump ship to Nikon !

I was having similar problems to those mentioned here. I called Canon support and the first thing they asked me was if I was using Canon batteries (which I was). Second they asked me if I had registered my batteries to the Camera which I did not even know was an option. So in the battery section (Wrench menu item 6/6) there is an info button. I clicked that and registered all my batteries.  Since that time (over 4 weeks ago) I have not had this problem any more.  I'm sure most of you probable knew about this so there may be other issues causing the freezing problem but for me it resolved it immediately. Hope this helps

Gary 52, thanks for this suggestion. I wonder what "Register" actually does. This window is where I have gone to get the serial number of my batteries which I put on the end cap to track. I never even thought about the Register button. I've made a number of calls about this problem and have sent my camera into Canon repair in Virginia three times (and they replaced the circuit board the first two times). Including talking to "Sr" techs. In that time no one ever asked me that question! Fingers crossed it makes a difference.

Thank you for that, I have never heard of that but I instantly picked up the camera and registered the batteries to it!! I hope it does help. The wifi / bluetooth transfer on it is shocking - I hVe the R6 mkii and that works like a dream. Im hoping to get this issue somehow resolved as well. It struggles to link to the camera and keeps dropping the transfer. In my job I cant have that. But thNk you ao much for the heads up on the batteries, much appreciated!

I had the Wi-Fi transfer drop often also. I have an IPhone and it would start to transfer then often drop. I found that it only happened when I was near a stronger Wi-Fi network like when I am home. If I was out in the field it did not happen.

On the iPhone setting under Wi-Fi and then in the specific Wi-Fi network you are on, there is a radial button that says Auto-Join. With that on the weaker Canon Wi-Fi connection drops and reverts to the stronger signal. I turned that off and now I don't have the problem. I just need to remember to connect back to my main Wi-Fi when I am not transferring files from my camera. Try this…hopefully this helps. Let me know what you find
