EOS R5 4K video frame grab export file size is too small

Hello everyone!

I did some research online and I see info that when you do a screen grab from video the file size should be 14MB or 30MB depending if it was shot on 4k or 8k. I shot in 4k and my screen grab is only 2MB. I shot in 4k-D 29.97p ALL-I. Any idea why the file is so small? Im getting the screen grab from the camera it self, as it states on the manual. Thanks!

Greetings,

This is from the product manual.

How are you transferring these frame grabs from the camera?

Frame grab from 8K / 4K movies

Individual frames in 8K / 4K movies recorded with the camera can be saved as JPEG still photos*1.

8K DCI Approx. 35.4 megapixels (8192×4320)
UHD Approx. 33.2 megapixels (7680×4320)
4K DCI Approx. 8.8 megapixels (4096×2160)
UHD Approx. 8.3 megapixels (3840×2160)

*1: From HDR PQ movies, saved in HEIF format.

Extracted still photos cannot be resized or cropped within the camera.

Frame grab is not available for movies recorded with Canon Log set.

Hello, I'm getting the grab from the camera directly by playing the video and going into the screen grab option. Is there a different way?

No, that's correct. The only way I see the size of the photo changing is if you we're using Canon connect to transfer it.

From a 4K video you create an 8MP JPG image as the frame grab image. This will be compressed with JPG compression and in such case a 2MB file size is not unreasonable or smaller than expected.

Is there a way to not have the JPG compress?

Sorry JPG is a compressed file type, you cannot create a RAW image from a frame grab of 4K or 8K video.
