EOS M50 intermittent issues with power, LCD, viewfinder, and capturing images

MikeHii89

My canon M50 has started acting up and I cannot for the life of me find anything related to this issue.

This issue primarily starts when i'm turning it on and off. Sometimes it won't turn on at all, sometimes the backlight turns on, but nothing happens, sometimes the viewfinder turns on but has no navigation panels. The oddest one is the viewfinder on without the navigation panels. It'll act as if its functioning, the shutter sounds snap when you take a picture, but nothing gets saved. It doesn't always happen, but it happens the most frequent when I turn it on after it being off after awhile. My firmware is 1.1.0.

Same thing without a card?

I took the card out and turned the camera on and off several times and then again with the card in it. Nothing happened when the card was out. But when the card was in, there were several times that the camera just didn't turn on, and then sometimes not turn on till much later. What could the issue be with the card? its a 256GB samsung Evo select microsd.

I also have a Samsung 256 GB micro SD. I recommend you to low level format the card. It increased the average write speed from 6 MB/s to 72 MB/s.

Red is write speed. Before and after a low level format.

“ I also have a Samsung 256 GB micro SD. I recommend you to low level format the card. It increased the average write speed from 6 MB/s to 72 MB/s. “

I suspect the size of the card is a potential issue.  The card could even be bad.  microSD cards have been known for that.

if the camera won’t power up cleanly, he won’t be able to format it in the camera.  I think the best course of action would be to stop using the 256gb microSD card and go with a full size SDHC card, 32GB or smaller.

This has to do with garbage collection and the nature of NAND flash.

The booting issue is what I see from time to time with SanDisk 32 GB cards when I have 1000 JPEG files on them from a different camera.
