After sitting in the closet for six months I decided to use my M3 with my favorite lens the Canon EF-M 11-22mm. After booting it shuts down and states "lens error, will shut down automatically." Rebooting does not help. Other lenses seems to work. The 11-22 is the only lens that has been attached to this camera for over a year.

Hello fragino,
Welcome to the Canon Forums and thanks for your post!
Based on your description there would seem to be something going on with the EF-M 11-22mm lens specifically. As a primary troubleshooting step I recommend using a clean, dry, soft cloth to gently wipe the gold colored metal contacts on the mount end of the lens. This will ensure the lens and camera have a good connection.
