It is not supposed to work that way. The USB port on the camera should only connect to a USB port on a computer. Likewise, the HDMI output on the camera should only connect to the HDMI input of a monitor or recording device.
Connecting an HDMI connector into the HDMI port on the camera should blank the screen. The camera has only one set of video output electronics. It is able to drive both the rear screen on the camera and the HDMI output concurrently.
