Hi everyone! I have an older camera, purchased circa 2014. It's worked flawlessly over the years.
This past weekend I finally got my first error code -- my camera is currently reading 00 aperture. I cleaned the contacts between camera body and lenses, it did not solve the issue. I swapped lenses, batteries, and SD cards just to be extra sure -- still giving me the 00 aperture.
After some online research, I know that updating firmware can be a good next step. But here's my concern - I've never updated firmware on my camera. At this point in my problem, would it be good to update the firmware now, or should I just mail the camera to canon and let them do their magic?
Thank you!

Greetings ,
I'm sorry that you're having an issue with your camera. It was certainly exceptional in its day. An 00 or F00 error typically indicates a communication issue between the camera and the lens, but if you've tried multiple lenses and the error persists, the next thing I would suggest is to perform a reset of main and custom functions. If the behavior follows It could indicate a problem with storage or other internal hardware failure.
You said that you've tried different lenses, different cards, and different batteries. If the reset doesn't help, this points to the body's internal hardware.
Updating firmware on a camera that's malfunctioning is not recommended. Maybe you're thinking you have nothing to lose, but this is probably the number one mistake people make thinking that it's going to resolve a problem.
The 5DSr is still serviceable by Canon. I recommend you pursue this path if getting the camera working again is something you want to do.
Start by registering your camera in your MyCanon account. Initiate a inspection/repair request. Provide a full description of the problem with the troubleshooting steps you performed. They will give you a quote. At that point, you'll be in a position to make an informed decision.

Other option. Consider upgrading to a mirrorless body. R6mkII, R5 or R5mkII. These body's capture at 24 and 45 megapixels respectively . The R5's are 45 megapixels. I don't know what you used your camera for. Do you need a 50 MP body that's 20 years old? The R5 series comes very close. The technology of a mirrorless body would also be vastly superior. I hope this information can help you make a decision that's best for you.
