Just picked up an EOS 5D. When I go to use exposure compensation, it sets the compensation in 1/2-stop increments (for both increasing and descreasing exposure.) I thought the EOS 5D offers exposure compensation in 1/3-stop increments? Any help is much appreciated!

The EOS 5D has the option for 1/2 or 1/3 stop exposure increments. The previous owner must have changed it and it is easy to change it back.
Just go into the Custom Function menu as shown on page 152 of the user manual which you can download here: https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/6/0900000316/01/EOS5DIM-EN.pdf

Which raises the point that you should totally reset the camera. Who knows what other settings the previous owner chaged. You need to do at least two resets: The reset in the camera menus and the reset for the custom functions.
