What kind of memory card are you using full size or a micro SD card in an adapter. Also what size and brand SD card are you using.

Micro SD in adapter.

Discontinue the use of Micro SD Cards in an adapter. Canon cameras DO NOT work well with Micro SD Cards in an adapter. Stick with Full size Class 10 SD Cards no larger than 32GB. Lower end Canon cameras also DO NOT work well with SDXC (64GB) or larger SD Cards. They will cause the camera to lockup or freeze for no apparent reason. Once discontinuing the use of the 64GB or larger SD Card all of the problems go away. ONLY buy SD Cards from a reputable company. Such Lexar, SanDisk & Prograde Digital. Also stayaway from any type of online marketplace such as Amazon. Buy SD Cards from reputable sources such as an electronics store, B&H Photo NY, Adorama, or a local camera store.

Totally agree with Demetrius: micro SD cards are not a happy marriage with cameras. Use only full-size SD cards, preferably a decent brand name like Lexar or Sandisk and purchased from a reputable dealer - not off some internet site - there are lots of counterfeits out there. I would stick to no more than 64Gb, and even better about 32 GB and get several of them, using multiple cards spread the risk.

It would seem to me that Canon, as well as their customers, would be well served by more clearly stating this in their user manuals and Quick Start Guides. They do state the recommended types and capacities of cards that can be used. But they should also emphatically add that using any memory card requiring an adapter IS NOT RECOMMENDED AND MAY CAUSE UNDESIRABLE, ERRATIC AND UNPREDICTABLE BEHAVIOR! in big red letters with an exclamation point!
Of course this still relies on the customer bothering to even read the literature that comes packaged with the camera.
