Canon t6i stops taking pictures

Schultz

Hello.  I have a barely used Canon t6i that is acting up.  It will take a few photos then the shutter stops working then the screen goes black.  It will not work again until after I pop the battery out and back in.  Also, it will not turn off sometimes until I pop the battery out.  Naturally I think it's something I am doing wrong.  Any help is so appreciated.  I most recently am using the P setting.  Thank you.

Thank you for the warning.  I was about to do something stupid.

Make sure that it is a full size card, and not a micro card with an adapter.

Yeah, I hate to bring bad news but it not likely any of that is the cause. It sounds more like an internal electronic failure. And more bad news, Canon isn't likely to service the T6i any longer. But a call to their friendly CS folks will confirm this. 1 (800) 652-2666 If the do still service you may want to carefully consider the repair vs replacement cost.

Go ahead and try all the above suggestions and when they don't help call the number.

the red one just went out of service life, but the other colors are still good.

Yikes!

One other yikes.  I just downloaded my photos onto my computer and they are very poor quality.  Same lens as I was using before .  Now I'm scared

Well that's not a guiltily verdict since bad photos can have hundreds of causes. But this might be a good thing in the end as it is a good time to upgrade. You can call that number and talk with the Canon folks. Service or replace.  Plus they have a loyalty program which will give you a trade in value of even broken cameras for a new one. Check out the Canon refurb store, too.
