T7 doesn't have that capability.

John,

Please excuse me for correcting your reply.  But if I interpret the OP's question correctly, I think he/she want to use back button focusing on the T7/2000d and that is something I did/do on my T7.

If my assumption isn't correct, I apologize and defer to your answer.

LZ

I looked in the manual and couldn’t see that setting. I didn’t see a setting for uncoupling AF from the shutter button. If you have done it please correct my error and show the process.

Rosssiiii,

If I understand you correctly, I think you want to set the T7/2000d for what is called "back button focus".

I have a T7 and utilize back button focus and it works well.  The button used for back button focus is the button you circled in the link.

I focus using back button focus and set exposure by pressing the shutter button half way.  More often than not, I'd set exposure 1st, then back button focus, then take the shot.  I did so per the kind and helpful advice of people on this forum.  (Thank you Trevor!)

If you have not already downloaded the manual from Canon Support, do so and go to the section on Custom Functions - page 265.  Set Fn-8 to 1 per the manual.  This separates exposure lock and auto focus.  The * button autofocuses and pressing the shutter button half way locks exposure.

Also, check This article on using back button focus https://www.usa.canon.com/learning/training-articles/training-articles-list/back-button-autofocus-ex....

Good luck!

LZ
