Canon Rebel T7 - Screen stuck intermittently -doesn't allow me to change any setting

I typically shoot in manual mode for astrophotography stuff. On several different occasions, my camera screen is just stuck. It does not let me change any settings and no matter what button I push, it does nothing. It will still allow me to take a picture though, for some reason. (But that doesn't help when I am trying to adjust settings to get the picture just right!) I have tried turning off for several minutes and back on - same result. I've taken the battery out and SD card out, waited, put back in, turn on - same result. I have no idea why it does it. Sometimes over a period of time it will go back to normal and let me change settings, but last night, no matter what I did, it stayed the same. I even tried changing the dial to say "landscape" or "close up" and the screen was still stuck. Other nights/or times I take pictures it will work just fine; it just happens so randomly.

Can anyone help??

Reset to defaults? I have a T7 and will follow this JIC.

I have not. I will try that tonight! May not have an answer right away since it only happens intermittently, but will let you know! Thanks!

I reset it yesterday-all settings.

today I just went out to try and capture the comet and moon. Did the same thing 😞 though it did snap out of it quicker than usual but it’s still happening. Maybe this is common with rebel T7 body? Do I need to upgrade?

As mentioned, I have had a T7 for about 7 years. No problems so far. FWIW, out of curiosity, looked at other models but are way out of my budget.

Good point lol I do love the camera as it’s decent for me, just frustrating this happens. And yes, same, I have looked as well and shew! I pick expensive hobbies! 😂

Does it happen after you take an image?

It could be taking a "dark frame"

It does happen after taking a picture, but it is not a dark frame. I can hear the camera when it releases after the picture is taken/completed. If in live mode at the time, I can still see the image that I am taking a picture of, but it does not let me back out of it to the main screen to change settings and doesn’t not do anything when pushing the other buttons (except the shutter to take another picture). If it’s not in live mode and freezes while I’m on the main screen with the settings displayed, it will do the same- not do anything no matter the button I push.
