Canon R5ii Error 70

I purchased a Canon R5ii this past August. Recently when in photo mode, it began to show the video record time as all red zeros. Even with a freshly formatted CF Card.

If there is a SD card in the second slot, the camera will not fully turn on.

Lastly, I arrived at a job the other day and was faced with Error 70. This occurred when trying to shoot video. The camera would freeze and I would have to turn it off and take the battery out. Thankfully I had my R6 with me, otherwise I would have been screwed.

Error 70 did not appear though when it came to taking photos.

I tried different frame rates and resolutions. Error 70 came up each time.

Lastly, I updated my camera today to the latest firmware (1.2.0). It showed fixes to many Error 70 issues, but it did not fix mine.

Anyone else face any of these issues?

TIA

Hi isaactalksphoto,

Thanks for checking in. To help us get a better sense of what you're facing, please elaborate on the CFexpress and/or SD memory cards you're using. Does the issue persist with multiple cards and whether you have an SD card or CFexpress card in the camera?

Thanks for the response!

I am using a Sony Tough CF Express Card. 240GB. 1850r and 1600w. I have never had an issue with this card previously on any video or photo jobs. In fact the card and camera still works for photos, just not video.

The error 70 also happens with different lenses. Initially it was happening with my Sigma art 50mm, on a Canon adapter. However, I have since tried it with my RF 24-70 2.8, and still doe not work.

The camera not working with SD card issue has been persisting for longer (as in a few months), but as I don't use the r5ii as my main body daily, I kept forgetting to post about it. I use Lexar pro cards. 250mb/s and 1667x.

Sony cards are for Sony cameras, not Canon's!
