Canon EOS Rebel 200D questions

Hi -

I have Canon EOS Rebel 200D and using the Canon Image EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM lens.

Two questions:

1. Taking close up portraits  - What camera/lens setting should I use to blur the background so to speak ?

2. Sports - cheerleading images - good camera/lens setting while the team is in motion ?

Thanks - Jerry

For your camera and lens combination, to maximize the background blur:

  1. Set the lens to its maximum focal length (55mm)
  2. Set the aperture to its widest value (f/2.8)
  3. Have your subject as far as possible from the background

Consider shooting in Av (Aperture Priority) mode

For the sports images, it will depend upon if you want to freeze the motion or show motion blur.  Consider shooting in Tv (Shutter Priority) mode.  Use a slower shutter (e.g. 1/125, 1/60) to show more motion blur.   Use a faster shutter (1/250, 1/500, etc.) to freeze more of the action.
