Canon EOS 1N bc Error + Shutter

Hi! I am currently on a trip, and my camera strap failed and i dinged my lens on the ground (she’s okay-ish), but the body it was on is now presenting a bc error, and when I try to hit the shutter release, the shutter will only close partly before going back to its normal position.

Just wanted to ask you guys if this seems to line up with a bc error? All the troubleshooting for a bc error I’ve found on youtube don’t seem to have half shutter issue. Wanted to see if it’s fixable if I strip it down and do the magnet thing, Or if it’s even worth getting repaired or just getting another 1N.

Thanks!

Are you using 3rd Party or Canon lenses. These old cameras would throw a bc error with incompatible 3rd Party lenses.

Greetings,

Start by confirming the issue is with the body and that it is not just with one lens that was mounted when the drop occurred.  If the body malfunctions with all lenses, its time to walk away.  Its a 31 yr old camera.

I've been shooting on Canon for well over 40 yrs.  I understand film and why some still shoot with it today. Besides the nostalgia, there is nothing compelling about shooting with film or old glass.  It doesn't matter if your trip is around the corner, or thousands of miles away.  You'll never know if you got the shot until the film is developed and back in your hands.  Are possibly missing special moments worth it?  Only you can answer that.

Modern post editors can reproduce the look, feel, grain and imperfections of film.  Your creative expression remains.  The difference though is you will know you got the shot or memory.  These memories can also be shared and archived more easily.

If film is your thing, I hope its the lens and not the camera, or that you can find a replacement for a reasonable price.  Hoping the best for you.  😀

Do you have other EF-mount lenses you can try? Another EF or EF-S-mount body to test your lens on?You must determine if the malfunction is lens or body, or both.

The 1N is still a great camera. I'm in a film photography club. I shoot film occasionally with my F1, EF, A-1, AE 1 Program, EOS Elan 2e, a Yashica D TLR and other cameras. I also have six Canon DSLRs or various ages. I used to do my own B&W film developing but gave it up. Getting film processed so I can scan negatives has gotten to be too much of a hassle. But more power to you for still wanting to do film.
