Can you power the r8 using the usb-c port on the camera?

Good morning. There is no way to do this that I am aware of. No software SDK or hardware that does this now.

The manual says you can if you use the PD-E1 power adapter:

The original post was edited.... He did not ask if the camera could be powered via its USB-C port.
Hence my original answer. 🤔 (Power on/off or camera control)
