After a wedding shoot, R5ii did not record images to memory card for a span of about 200 pictures

I have never experienced this before, but I shot a wedding yesterday and was going through the pictures today. As I'm doing this, I get to the vows and suddenly the next picture jumps to all the guests standing and leaving the venue. I look at the filename, it goes from A16A7483 to A16A7627. It's a critical 4 minute gap with the first kiss and the recession, I'm not sure what else. At first I thought I maybe missed copying them somehow so I checked my CF card and the gap is there too. That's why we shoot dual slots though, right? Nope, the gap is in my backup card as well.  I have used recovery software (at the moment, just diskdrill) and it has found nothing. Even the reconstructed missing images show a gap at that exact moment. 

I have no idea what happened, but I don't know how I can trust this camera again, there was nothing unusual during shooting and distinctly remembering telling couple to kiss during the recession and setting the focus for their kiss correctly on the viewfinder preview. The camera clearly recorded the shutter presses judging by the filename numbers, but the pictures simply don't exist. Has anyone experienced this before? How can I trust this camera again?

It sounds like a memory card issue, to me.  What make, model, storage capacity is the card?

When was the last time you formatted the card? How many images are currently stored on it.

Make sure you do not have a seperate folder assigned to the CF. Also, make sure you didn't accidentally set a video mode. They sometimes go to a different folder.

I doubt it is capacity issue since it saved images after the number loss. However, it is very likely it is a corrupt CF or just a low quality CF. Always buy top quality CF from good known retailers. Amazon and eBay are not known good retailers. Never use large capacity CF and change out the CF often. When I was active in weddings, I changed the CF for each phase of the ceremony. I never lost a shot after the first time! It is not a good thing to explain it to the bride that you lost that most important moment in her life. The number one reason she hired you.

Assuming you did buy a top brand CF and it is corrupted, you can contact the maker directly as all of them have extreme recovery methods that are not available to you. You will need to send the CF to them and let them see if it can be recovered. Make a full backup or copy of the CF before you send it off. Warning it usually isn't a cheap thing to do.

I know you may not like hearing this but almost, key word here, but almost all these issues are user caused and not camera related. Still have it checked out.

I was never a chimper since growing up in the film era which is something you can't do. I just never got the habit. However, it is a good thing once in a while to check on things by looking. If you did look and you did see an image I would very much suspect the CF.

I use dual cards, both SanDisk. The CF is a SanDisk extreme pro and the other is a SanDisk extreme, both 256gb. Both were formatted before the event, both have the exact same gap in the footage, 144 pictures. If it was just one card, sure I would definitely assume a faulty card. But both missing the same gap? It was a long day, I guess something could have happened that I'm forgetting. 

Thankfully my fiancée stepped up to be a second shooter, though the pictures from her angle aren't fantastic at least it's something.

This is typically a catastrophic event for a wedding photographer.  Very sorry you're living it now.

Cards were the same brand and same size which is helpful.

Was this the model of your SD card?

If so this is UHS-I v30.  While these cards are compatible with your camera I would not use this card in a dual recording situation.  Only the v60 cards were known to have an issue in the R5 Mark II. 

However I believe this pairing was not a good match.  In this recording situation I would only use a Extreme Pro UHS-II v90 SD.

I have no empirical data to back this up, it's just a gut feeling as a possible explanation for the recording glitch that occurred.  I'll bet your camera is just fine.

I am sorry that have lost images. $$$ 

Send the camera to Canon for a complete Clean-And-Checkit, if you feel like the camera is malfunctioning in some way. 

I asked about how often you format the cards, and how many files were saved on the card, because of the file names that you posted.  It left me with the impression that thousands of images were saved. But, the storage capacity of your cards would seem to end that line of thought.
