6d mode dial plate fell off

The face plate on the mode dial of my 6d has fallen off. Best way to get a replacement? Will service center send a new one or will I need to send it in. Still under warranty.

Thanks,

David G

Thats funny. Mine fell out of my 6D at 6 weks slso. But the other dial button is working inconsistently also.
The Canon camera is of bad design. Very different to my other Canons. Cheap garbage.

Er... Didn't you happen to mention in a nearby thread that the camera got wet? That changes things things a bit, doesn't it? I think everyonr knows that a 6D is not weatherproofed.

Hi everyone!

So...I did something really terrible. When my dial plate fell off, I glued it back on and I think some of the glue got in the middle of the dial and it no longer turns. I'm afraid to use acetone on it because it's an electronic but I think that might be the only thing that would help disolve the glue?

I thought about using a dental pick to try to scrape off the glue as well. Any ideas? Anyone used acetone on their body before?

Any chance you glued your dial shut (luckily, it's glued on manual) but I can't turn the dial anymore after gluing the dial plate back on and I think I must have glued the center part as well. Any ideas on how I can get it turning again?

I did the same mistake. Added too much glue I guess and now the mode dial does not turn.. Anyone in the same predicament ? what was your solution.

Where on the dial plate did you apply the glue?

I recovered/found my plate, but I'm hesitant to apply glue without knowing what surface on the dial or camera to apply it to.

You're gluing something flat to something flat, so it's not rocket science. Use cyanoacrylate glue, but sparingly, keeping it away from the center, which is where the moving parts are.

My Mode Dial cover is gone on 30D and 6D after two years of using each camera. Canon uses crappy glue for these dials and not improving anything year after year.

My 6D is nearly 5 years old, and I've never had a problem with the mode dial.  Then again, I really do not touch it to change shooting mode very often.  In fact, I almost never change it from M mode.

Yes and the first option you should have taken, call Canon and set up a repair ticket. 1 (800) 652-2666

A lot of the time, most of the time, if you don't know what you are doing, and obviously you folks don't, calling in a professional repair company is the cheapest way to go.

Isn't it strange thousands maybe hundreds of thousands of 6 series don't do that.  Yours did, who knows the circumstances, and the whole lot is "Cheap garbage." Smiley Frustrated
