40d always "busy" and back LCD screen not working

my canon 40d keeps saying busy and the back LCD screen is not working. what do I do??

Thanks for posting.

1. Does the BUSY message appear only after performing a certain action, like pressing the SHUTTER button?
2. Is the built-in flash popped up when you see the BUSY message appear?
3. If you press the PLAYBACK button or the MENU button, does anything appear on the LCD?

Hi Mike,
I am having the same issue. Error 99 used to pop up, but doesn't anymore, just what the previous guy said happens.
It only happens when I push the shutter down, the flash isn't up and no button will turn on the back LCD.
