I have a 24 - 105 USM lens on my Canon 5D
It now only works on 24 mm. On any other zoom setting, the mirror goes up but won't come back down until I switch the camera off.
The problem is connected to the fact that the depth of field preview button doesn't work either. Pressing it closes the iris, but it gets stuck and won't release.
Do not reply to this message unless 1) you have had experiance of this problem and 2) you can suggest what I might try myself for a simple fix.
Thanks.

Have you tried a different lens?
Yes, the problem does not appear with a different lens.

Try cleaning lens contacts and if that doesn't work it I would send it to Canon. If its not under warranty Canon will give you a quote to fix.

Never saw anything about this before, but I found this:

That's the same problem all right. Mine also shows Error 01, which I should have mentioned.

Any indication that Canon can't fix this? Just saying, stuff breaks.
Disclaimer, I have the 5D2 and 24-105.

Error 01. Bingo! It means there is a lens communication error.
But you need to call Canon, first, if the problem is in the 5D as I am not sure they still work on it. If it is the lens' fault, they do.
IMHO, it is almost never dirty contacts. But, hey, it is worth a try, it could be.

There are Youtube videos of disassembling this lens and replacing the diaphram and flex cable. Scary! I would be sure to lose a vital screw or something.
It is worth a few hundred ti have Canon do the job.
So my next step is to contact them.
