I have two R6 cameras and tried both with my ef 600mm f4 lens and it is not sharp... both work great with all my other EF lenses. Common problem? fixable?

Can you post some images in the forum with the metadata intact. Do you own the EF 600mm F/4L IS USM lens with (Image Stabilization) IS. Or is this the original EF 600mm F/4L USM lens that DOES NOT have IS. Is the camera missing focus all the time with that particular lens. What AF Operation are using One Shot, AI Focus or Servo AF. What Drive mode are you using Single, Continuous Low, Continuous High, Electronic ect. What shooting mode are you using M, Av, Tv, P, A+.

I shoot manual, single and continuous high, single shot and servo. lens is missing focus all the time. lens is an IS lens so I guess ver. ii444A0113.jpg444A0102.jpg

The EF 600mm F/4L IS USM lens (released in 1999) was used according to the metadata. Did you use a 1.4x Teleconverter if so is it Canon or a 3rd party teleconverter. Which model the original, Mark II or Mark III. I noticed that you used a slow shutter speed of 1/400th sec. Your 2nd picture will show camera shake. You should be using 1/ focal length rule to prevent camera shake. But since a teleconverter is being used. You should be shooting at 1/1000th sec or faster to avoid camera shake. Were you on a tripod or not. Also can you provide a Raw file.

Was a Teleconverter used?Was a Teleconverter used?

600mm F/4L IS USM

teleconverter or not, both ways same result

Your shutter speed is too slow in the 2nd picture causing camera shake. Since your using a 1.4x teleconverter. You lost 1 stop of light. So you went from 600mm F/4 lens to an 840mm F/5.6 lens. IS can only help so much with older lenses. Your lens uses 1st gen IS technology. Also IBIS only can help so much in this case.

why do you think shutter speed is too slow when unit is mounted on rock solid tripod? I consistently shoot  1/40th sec with my 500mm f4 and SAME 1.4 TC with tack sharp results.

was on tripod. been a working professional for 35 years and shoot much slower handheld with my 500mm f4. the TC is a 1.4 canon iii

Your 500mm F/4 lens maybe providing more stops of image stabilization. I don't know which 500mm F/4 lens you have. The 600mm F/4L IS USM can't provide the same level of IS. If the 500mm F/4 is a newer lens with a newer IS system. Due to the 600mm F/4L IS USM lens only having 2 stops of image stabilization. Certain features are LIMITED with older EF lenses.
