"Now, it's the same lens, you just might have to jump through some hoops to register it and get a warranty, if you get one at all."

You will not get a Canon USA warranty if it is not a Canon USA authorized product no matter how many "hoops" you jump through.

Probably my failing memory, EB. It just seems that I recall one of the forum moderators telling someone to call support to get it squared away.

FWIW: My experience with Amazon on many types of products is that sometimes the product is used or refurbished and that information is not in the title.

If it form Amazon and is sold as new it will be new. Amazon Marketplace is not Amazon itself. They are individual retailers.

You taught me something--I've never paid much attention to Amazon vs. Amazon Marketplace but now I will! Thanks.

Hello, Wandalynn!

An easy way to make sure you are dealing with Amazon is to look right under the "Add to Cart" button after you have clicked on the product.

I generally use Sandisk products, and it will show "Sandisk" in the "Sold by". If not, I go to B&H.

Thanks!

Most of the time the things you buy from Amazon and/or its Marketplace vendors doesn't' matter.  So there is no real worry. However, it does matter with a few certain things like photography gear that can have several places of origin. Batteries and memory items are another one to watch carefully. There could be more but these are the ones that affect us mostly.

Batteries and memory cards can be counterfeited easily and often are. If you buy from Amazon itself you are golden but if it is a Marketplace vendor be very careful. Batteries also can just be junk knock offs that are not counterfeit. They just no good.
