Review of Tamron 28-75 mm f 2.8

Hi.

I have been recommended a Tamron 28-75 mm F 2.8 for my camera 600D- in a seperate post - " low budget lens for amateurs"   http://forums.usa.canon.com/t5/Lenses/Low-budget-lenses-for-amateurs/m-p/42823#U42823

I did some checks online and have almost made up my mind to go for this.

However would welcome reviews on this lens:-

1. What are the shortcomings if any which might really make it a bad deal to buy and make me go for a slightly higher end lens?

2. Is lack of IS a big problem at higher end of 75 mm? If yes, in which conditions?

3. Should I also look at a slightly higher budget (can stretch budget to max 900-1000 dollars) and look at a different lens? If yes, what would be the reasons for considering?

I mainly use the Canon 24-70mm F2.8. Not exactly the same as yours but really close and I don't see the need for IS.It is a great focal range for both crop and full frame. My hands are a little shaky (must be from all that coffee), but I can hand hold it pretty well up to 1/60s. I can hold it steady up to 1/45 or 1/30s if I have something to lean on. Thus again, I don't see the need for IS. With IS you can go slower  than that but what is the point if you don't want to run into motion blur problem.

Which has 2 versions listed but someone in one section thinks both are for the same lens. DP Review likely also has reviews but I don't know that site well enough to find them.

Believe I will wait till I can buy the Tamron 24-70 mm f2.8 V

Seems to be the best suited at most optimal price and well worth the wait of 3 to 4 months till I can afford it.

As someone who is self employed my moto is that he who pays the bill should get whatever THEY want, not what their friends want them to buy. If that fits your needs go for it.

I agree 100%.

Another castration is the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 EX. I bought one a month ago for my assistant to use but I like it so much I haven't turned it over to her yet. It is less than the Tamron which is probably the best off-brand 24-70mm. Give the Siggy a go. You may like it well enough to get one too. 

I have been impressed with Sigma lately and have bought four of there lenses and each one is not just good but outstanding.

Six months ago I would not have touched a 3rd party lens. Things change!
