Removing full tripod ring on RF 70-200 2.8 USM Z

Hi, I just received the RF 70-200 2.8 USM Z and am trying to figure out how to remove the tripod ring. I was able to get the attachment off, but not the full ring. The remaining knob is a bit intrusive in my bag and isn't thrilling to have in the way when shooting. Thanks!

I don't have that lens, but it appears to be made like the EF 100-400L, which I do have.

It can't be removed.
