Recommendations for ugliest EF lens

julioo

I'm trying to source out the most hideous lens for my Canon rebel 2000. It's an ugly camera already, but I want something which looks worse than a 50 1.8 so that no one will ever think I know what I'm doing when holding it.

What lens would that be? Does it come in the same vomit inducing silver?

Any recommendations appreciated.

Not exactly ugly, but you might want to take a look at the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM and EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM pancake lenses. They are both really small, about half  the length of the EF 50mm f/1.8 so it almost looks like you don't have a lens on the camera.

But those two lenses aren't "ugly" at all! They are nice "walking around" lenses.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I do not think of any Canon EF lenses as “ugly”, not even the pancake lenses.  I actually liked using a pancake lens on a Rebel body, especially when doing street photography.  I could have a camera and combo that could capture quality wide angle images without looking like Joe “The Pro” Photographer, and attract unwanted attention.

I think a lens with a body color and material that does not match the camera body every well is not very attractive looking.  For example, a brushed aluminum lens body used on a hard wheel, black plastic body might be very attractive looking.  In fact, the combo may attract attention, for better or for worse.

The L series lenses with white bodies do not match the black bodies that they are typically paired with.  But those lenses are light in color for technical reasons, not cosmetic reasons.

The color of the barrel of a lens usually has nothing to do with the optical design.

Are you Jonny Ives in disguise?

No Canon lens comes in silver: Either black or white (Which Jonny Ives probably appreciates).

While not "ugly" - lens' shape are almost entirely dictated by technical design, not fashion - the TS lenses are funny locking with all the knobs and protuding surfaces. A bit expensive for a statement, though.

The OP did not limit choices to any specific brands. Lensbaby comes to mind.  BTW, one or more Canon EF-M lenses were available with silver bodies.

I don't quite understand the need for that but .......

".. the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM and EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM pancake lenses."

.......... are about as ugly as a lens can get. IMHO, of course.

This whole post and conversation is really silly.

Find an old scuffed up film era lens that you can mount with an adapter to the Rebel.  Many of these old usable lenses with good optics have been handled enough to appear rough.
